Perfect porches and pool!

Even in the middle of a big move, this terrific home helped us relax with our crew of 6 kids! We can't say enough good things about the spacious screened-in porches and the HUGE pool! The porches beckoned us morning, noon and night to eat in the breezy morning air, enjoy the sparkling waters at lunchtime while we escaped the bright sun, and view the sunsets! Perfect for enjoying with kids with no worries about their safety! The grand pool too is a frequent topic of conversation in our house because it appealed to all w/its shallow section, ledges and "deep end."

The proximity to the beach was perfect too for little feet, quick trips back to the bathroom and beach jaunts that could be fit in anytime... Yet it was just far enough away we felt like we returned to our own private retreat. As we read, we really did have the beach almost all to ourselves.

House notes: Bright art and wall colors made the house feel cheerful, but not fussy. Casual and comfortable enough to enjoy, but clean. The great room had plenty of room to read and play games on our one rainy afternoon.

Another pro: the owners Bill and Tanya were wonderfully prompt in answering emails with questions and were accomodating with plans as a repair was being done just before our arrival.

Our only disappointment was the hammock had become unoperational before our arrival - but we found plenty of places to relax! And we loved the freedom of using the golf carts to roam the island. Our kids say they'd like to take their kids here someday - that to me says they made special memories here! 'Loved the Havana Breeze!

My 3 friends and I had a wonderful time on North Captiva. Havana Breezes was a great house-clean,well- equipped,good location.Bill the owner was very responsive and offered good suggestions.Restaurants were all excellent.Very relaxing time with great weather. Worth the trip over on the ferry!

PRO's...

Tanya and Bill were so patient and helpful. We did not realize it was an island, literally, until I booked it and my daughter asked me why we had to leave our cars...I think this was the best mistake ever made by us!

The house was bigger and more updated than pics show. I was pleasantly surprised by the natural sunlight in the home. Everything worked and no surprises except the view from the home. The trees and foliage have grown so the view of the beach from the second floor is not quite as good as the pics, but that is nature. We still saw some of the ocean and never missed a sunset. The beds were ohh so comfy too! We even had a turtle reside with us, ( under the house of course) and we named him Calypso! He is very cool and not a bother at all. He hangs out and does his thing but will stop to say hi!! Internet, satellite, technology was fine, no problems at all.

We saw the meteor showers from the beach on 8-11-13 and also from the front porch area.

Caught quite a few trout right off the beach!

Cons: the only problem was getting another golf cart. Long story short, I had one reserved ( the las one they had at boats and fun) to use on out last day. I got it and almost got stranded as the axle broke after a half an hour.

Thank goodness I was near the main area. They did refund my money and I lucked out and rented a private one for the last day. The residents are very ice BUT...the problem is vacationers allow children to drive the carts and then they hightail over bumps and bust them up.

I am really surprised guests do not respect rules or property of the Island and saw kids 8 to 14 driving around. We also saw guests piling in 6 or more on the golf carts which breaks them down also..

Besides that ( which was an issue since there were 6 of us and the golf carts allow 4, or the rules say 4) it is a must do vacation.try to communicate with owners and get some island knowledge.

Havanas Breeze....everything they said it was ...we will be back!

"Super quiet and inexpensive time to visit the island. Almost no people around and we had the beach to OURSELVES the whole week. And the kiddos could run back to the house for snacks and bathroom; really convenient! Can't wait to return next January."

Best private pool ever and so close to the beach

"Quite honestly, we were a little worried from one of the previous reviews about hurricane damage and old photos. But, other than the beach views from the living room, we thought the pictures were really good .. in fact, the house and pool looked even better than the pictures. The house isn't right on the beach but there is a lot without a home that has grown over a great deal since the beach pictures were taken but we still had views of the water and sand from the outside porches, especially from our favorite rocking chair seats for the late afternoons when the sun was so bright and hot. The breezes on the porch were amazing, even during late August. The house is clean and well organized, most everything that anyone would ever need for a 1 week stay. It looks like the owners had just replaced the washer .. at least it looked very new but was huge for washing our pool and beach towels. Bill answered all of the questions that we had quickly, usually within an hour or two and he was pleasant to deal with the two times that we spoke with him on the phone, making us comfortable about And the people that met us at the dock were just WONDERFUL. They took care of all of our luggage and led us right to the house. Loved our stay!"

Truly a paradise

"Tanya and Bill were extremely quick about answering questions about their house and the island, especially in how to order groceries directly to the house before we arrived and the different ferry boat options available and the costs. The HUGE pool is where we and the kids hung out between the quick strolls down to the beach .. so close to the house that trips back for snacks, meals, and bathroom breaks for our 3 small ones was a lifesaver! The pool is one of the memories the kids keep talking about with its shallow section for the very little ones that was only 3' deep, the ledges to sit and hangout on around the edge fo the pool and the really deep end for us adults. Even during the summer, we really did have the beach almost all to ourselves since there are only 10 houses or so on the lane that leads down to the beach just a few steps from the house. And lastly, Duncan and Laurie seemed like they were at our beck and call .. they met us at the boat with our golf cart and they moved our luggage straight to the house. They had already put all of our groceries away before we arrived. And they helped us get everything back to the boat for our departure when our magic holiday was over. We definitely want to come back .. the price was just right, compared to other, pricier houses that we looked at before booking. It is casual and comfortable without being so nice we would be afraid the kids would cause damage."
