VACATION RENTAL ORDINANCE REQUIRES 28 Night MINIMUM
We are a small romantic cottage, on a tropical island named Conch Key, a quaint Old Florida Keys style lobster fishing village located about 10 miles from Marathon and close to various state parks and beaches.
Centrally located, we are the exact midpoint of the Florida Keys, or the halfway mark between the mainland & Key West. It's a perfect home base for day trips & sightseeing. We offer a quiet underdeveloped island (only 3 short residential streets) and an easy relaxing pace of life. You can take a leisurely stroll or bike ride on our bikes (no traffic) to explore the island, look for our hidden beach cove, take an ocean water swim off our private dock, or take a nap under the large Tiki hut in our hammocks and still embrace the authentic charm of the Old Florida Keys.
From the cottage you can embark on a scenic water adventure! Launch the kayaks and fish the flats or explore the island waterside. Paddle to surrounding sandbars or island beaches (close by) via scenic waterways accessible by small boat or kayak only. All our guests may enjoy the use of our bicycles & kayaks without charge.
Your back yard is on an old Keys, picturesque water view setting. Your back door opens to a large Tiki Hut with electricity, ceiling fans, and night time lighting on the water. Under its roof you'll find swinging hammocks and dining table, perfect for relaxation & cocktail hour or outside dining & BBQ. Scenic & on the water, manatees, tropical fish & Loggerhead turtles often come by to visit. Daytime or shine a light into the water at night and you'll see tropical fish, lobster, octopus, and other sea life passing around our dock.
Your next door neighbors commercial lobsterman Steve & Jeff, will sell you fresh caught lobster and stone crab right off their boats when in season; or ask your other next door neighbor Captain Dan, professional captain & fishing guide to take you on a 1/2 day or full day charter on his boat and catch your own fish. You won't have to drive anywhere, just wake up, step off your back porch & onto his boat. After a beautiful day on the water Captain Dan will help you or filet your fish. You can cook them on the grill as soon as you get off the boat, or take it to many of the local eateries that will cook your catch for a delicious meal.
If you like to fish without a boat, we are located within walking distance (a few blocks) from the dedicated world class Long Key fishing bridge (the old bridge converted to 3 miles of dedicated pedestrian fishing). Day or night you can cast your bait from land or bridge to hook up with tarpon & many other variety of salt water fish. The bridge is also a great place take a bike ride, go for a walk, or jog if you are a runner, and catch a beautiful sunrise or sunset over the water.
For our guests who bring boats, the boat launch is only about a block away from the cottage. Our large dock will accommodate a boat up to 23' in length (no additional charges). There's plenty of room on property to store you trailer (again no additional charges). There is immediate Bay & Ocean access for flats or deep sea fishing, lobstering, diving, snorkeling and other water activities.
To qualified boaters we also offer (with additional charges & conditions, booked in advance, with a minimum 7 night booking) a Small Motor Boat Option (SMBO) - Currently a Craig Cat, 2 passenger 30hp motor boat rental is available with the cottage booking only. Capable of being used for island hopping, scenic on water exploring, and boat only accessible island beaches. Our boat is capable of getting under many smaller lower height bridges dividing ocean & bay, allowing more opportunity & easier access to island beaches & skinny water exploration of scenic waterways etc. It is not for use in deeper ocean side water, if you are interested in a Deep sea or larger boat rental, we can certainly help guide you to a close & practical boat rental company.
Tastefully furnished, the cottage is a cozy 2bedroom/2bath romantic getaway with WIFI internet access. Accommodations are comfortable for 2 guests on each queen size bed, and if necessary 1 guest on the couch (a bit crowded). The 2nd bedroom/bath is attached to the cottage, but accessible by a private front porch courtyard entrance/exit only, not through the body of the main cottage. It provides an extra level of comfort & privacy for 2 couples traveling together or families, but may be unsuitable for younger children. Each side includes its own bathroom, Direct TV with premium channels, & separate thermostat controlled central a/c & heat.
THIS IS NOT A PARTY HOUSE RENTAL, NO LARGE GATHERINGS. We love great guests that are respectful of our neighbors & our property on this quaint island & thus allow no more than a respectful number or limit of non-booked guests at any time during your stay. There are security cameras around the perimeter of the cottage.
ALL Advanced Bookings require a non refundable $500.00 - $1000.00 reservation deposit for each week or part of a week booked until 60 days prior to the check in date, when the balance and all monies are due & non refundable. Guests that pay in full then request to cancel more than 60 days before the arrival date, receive a refund minus the non refundable reservation deposit. Please provide us with an e mail address & phone number for information on booking the cottage. We require a copy of your Drivers License with signed rental agreement (we provide this attachment by e mail in our answer to your inquiry) during or immediately after you book. This is definitely a NON-SMOKING/NO PET and absolutely a NO PARTY rental.
I am retired from the Dade County Fire Department, where I served at one of the busiest stations on the Eastern Seaboard for 31.5 years. I grew up in Dade County spending much of my time boating, diving and sailing in Biscayne Bay and the Florida Keys. I bought this cottage after I fell in love with this Island. I fell in love with this island because it has retained so much of the Old Florida Keys character that I grew up with. It is actually zoned as a Commercial Fishing Village and remains as maybe one of the only islands that hasn't been overwhelmed with modern structure. It still maintains the charm & charisma of the old style cottages and historical Keys.

Traditional beaches and state parks are close by. Larger power boat rental, fishing charters, and fresh seafood are available close by or literally feet from the property. Also Hawks Cay resort, just around the corner offers a wide variety of water activities such as jet ski rental, para-sailing, powerboat rentals, and fish or dive charters. Lobstermen and local fishing guides with private charter boats are your neighbors and are happy to book a days activities. Fishing and diving are excellent and we are well situated with immediate bay and ocean access by boat. We have on many occasions caught our lobster dinners by snorkeling immediately around the island. Watching the neighbors bring in their daily fresh catch of fish, lobster, stone crabs, and tropical fish for aquariums is very interesting, and purchasing fresh caught from the neighbors for your meal, if you don't catch your own.

Four of us stayed 5 nights at Ken’s cottage as part of a fishing holiday to celebrate my partners 40th birthday. We picked this cottage because it was on a key that wasn’t a tourist spot and we wanted to feel part of the community for the short time we were there. We also loved the look of the dock and how close it was to the bridge where we would be fishing.
Ken’s cottage was quirky, cosy and certainly felt like a home from home. It was so well stocked with equipment that it was easy to do meals at home to then enjoy our on the dock. The dock is just magical. Evenings under the tiki hut were fun, daytimes we were able to catch fish and watch the nurse sharks swimming past.
This home was comfortable and Ken was really helpful with making suggestions before we checked in. We were all really sad to leave and hope to be back one day.

Ken, the owner was very hospitable and responsive as we researched and considered his cottage as we reviewed many properties to rent in the Keys. The cottage is a slightly older, one bedroom, one living room, small kitchen cottage with an adjoining 2nd bedroom with separate bathroom (sort of a mother-in-law room) if you need it. Our daughter slept there, while my wife and I had the main cottage to ourselves :-) . The cottage is on a canal a very short boat ride into the larger bay and less than a mile from the ocean. A boat rental is highly recommended to see the area, snorkel and fish. I used Pier 68 (Jay is excellent!) for a two day rental of a 22' deck boat that I tied up to Ken's pier (fit perfectly). Just an hour or so by car from Key West, it was an easy trip to go visit the Cat Man, do some shopping, and people watch. Evenings at the cottage under the stars on the back deck were beautiful. Should have been a 5 star rating but we had a little trouble with water temperature control in the showers that caused us a little discomfort. Ken was quick to apologize and refunded a substantial portion of our rental cost to compensate us for the inconvenience. I am sure he has fixed or replaced the water heater, but be sure to ask about it. This is a very reasonably priced property for a romantic stay almost exactly in the middle of the Florida Keys. There isn't much to see ashore on Conch Key, but Marathon and Islamorada are both only 15 minutes away. With a boat though, you have immediate access to crystal blue, clear water a short ride away. If prices in Key West are too high, or you want more quiet and solitude at night, Ken's Cottage is an excellent choice.

The cottage is conveniently situated on a channel that had easy access to the bayside. Cottage is in the heart of a fishing community. We rented a boat for 3 days from Pier 68 and spent our time fishing, snorkeling and sightseeing. The nearby SS Wreck provided excellent dining and seafood was our choice each day. Enjoyed shopping in Islamorada and feeding the tarpon at Robbie’s. A day trip to Key West was about 1.5 hours away and is a must do. The hammocks and tiki hut allowed us to enjoy a nap and some reading time. The cottage provided everything that we needed for a relaxing family vacation. Ken was very accommodating and helpful.

Great location centered in The Keys to do different activities. Great sunset kayaking. Wonderful RnR cottage.

The cottage is situated very centrally, so is ideal for exploring the Keys by car. (There is plenty of parking space). This is a small, "real" nieghbourhood cum working key, which we found a refreshing antidote to glitzy but band holiday resorts. Well equipped, cozy, homely and characterfully decorated, everything was very clean and worked well. The air conitioning was quiet and efficient. There is a good space outside the back door to sit on the quayside. The nearest public beach we found was Sombrero - lovely - (just beyond Marathon town) but there may be others; we were only there 3 days. Ken's pre-arrival information was very helpful and there seems to be plenty of opportunity for watersports here, although we didn't have time to explore these.

The stay here was great. I wish the weather would have cooperated a bit more, but what can you do? Loved the kayak rides we took, saw some sharks, and stingrays while we were out there. Did some fishing caught some neat looking fish. I would definitely stay here again, but next time, I will plan around the weather, and it will absolutely be a warmer stay. Thanks Ken for being so accommodating.

My family had a great time vacationing over the holidays at Ken's cottage. We rented a boat at Duck Key for 3 days and was able to keep it at the dock at the cottage. Ken has a great outdoor setting with a tiki hut, great hammocks (look new) and great Adirondack chairs. We saw a nurse shark and turtle in the canal. Thanks, Ken for letting us rent your cottage.

Thanks for letting us stay at your place on Conch Key. Everything was in working order and as advertised. Having the ability to keep our boat right on the water out back was a huge plus for us.
