FLORIDA DISASTER PREPAREDNESS SALES TAX HOLIDAY

JUNE 1 - 8, 2018

The FLORIDA Legislature passed into law The 2018 Disaster Preparedness Sales Tax Holiday. This sales tax holiday begins on Friday, June 1, 2018 and ends Thursday, June 7, 2018. Florida Vacation Rental Owners can take advantage of this tax savings opportunity with their businesses. It is a great time to purchase Hurricane Kits to prepare for the Florida tropical storm season ahead. Savvy property owners know that it's prudent to take the appropriate steps to protect their properties and their guests with sufficient equipment to help them through an enexpected storm or disaster. Don't wait until it's too late this Sales Tax Holiday is only available for a short time.
During this sales tax holiday period, certain disaster preparedness qualifying items are exempt from sales tax. Examples of qualifying items are as follows:
  • lanterns, flashlights, candles
  • reusable ice packs
  • batteries
  • radios
  • food storage chests and coolers
  • portable generators
The sales tax holiday does not apply to:
  • the rental or repair of any of the qualifying items.
  • sales in a theme park, entertainment complex, public lodging establishment or airport.
